Is FoodTrekking World a reinvention of your FoodWorx event?

No, not at all. FoodWorx was an annual event produced by the World Food Travel Association between 2012 and 2016. FoodWorx dealt with food industry issues specifically and was oriented to consumers and food and beverage industry entrepreneurs. On the other hand, FoodTrekking World is fully devoted to food and beverage tourism. While FoodTrekking World is the new name for our biennial food tourism convention (formerly known as the World Food Travel Summit), the 2017 FoodTrekking World event is our fifth global trade convention specifically for the food and beverage tourism industry.

Where is FoodTrekking World being held (i.e. the venue)?

The conference is being held at Portland’s historic Sentinel Hotel.

How do the B2B meetings work?

You meet with another person for up to 10 minutes at times prescheduled by our appointment software. You’ll be able to arrange approximately 30 total meetings over the course of both days. You won’t miss any of the speeches or meals because time has been set aside specifically for the appointments. As for individual meetings, the time is shared, so each of you gets 5 minutes to present you and your business, organization or destination to the other person. By the end of the 10 minutes, you’ll know whether it was a good fit and worth your time to arrange a more in-depth follow-up meeting after FoodTrekking World. If it wasn’t the right fit, then you’ve only lost 10 minutes of time.

When can I make appointments for my B2B meetings?

Approximately 1-2 weeks before FoodTrekking World, we’ll invite you into the appointment scheduling system. You’ll be able to search for other registered delegates, choose who you want to meet with, and request an appointment. You can change your meetings at any time so if you’ve filled all your appointments and someone interesting asks to meet you, you can cancel one of your other appointments. It’s a fantastic and flexible system! No other food tourism industry event offers you this valuable tool. And remember, there’s no additional charge to participate – it’s included with your registration.

What takes place during the B2B meetings?

That’s up to you! Select appointments with companies and people you want to meet. The meetings are less than 10 minutes each, so you will need to plan carefully what you will say or present. Use the meetings for a sales pitch, to conduct an interview, meet someone you admire to ask about their marketing techniques, etc.

Who attends the B2B meetings?

Any registered delegate for the trade conference is invited to attend the B2B meetings. This includes journalists and speakers. There is no extra cost for the meetings beyond the basic conference registration. We cannot require registered delegates to participate in meetings, but most will do so because it’s such a valuable networking opportunity. Delegates include tour operators; travel agents; hotels; restaurant management groups; wineries, breweries and other food/beverage producers; tourism offices; journalists; government officials, service providers like PR and design, and many more. Click here to see a diagram of the extended community we serve (any of these businesses attend our events). There are no restrictions on which business types can participate in the meetings.

What do I bring with me to the B2B meetings?

Think about what you would bring with you to any other business meeting. At a minimum, a notepad and pen.You might also want to bring a presentation, video or photos on a tablet or laptop. Some people even record their meetings using their smartphones. For an added touch, why not bring a small gift from home as a memento?

How do I exhibit?

It’s easy! Click the Exhibitors tab in the navigation menu for details, or click “Register” in the navigation menu to book your booth. Only a very, very limited number of booths are available so avoid disappointment when we sell out.

Do you offer any media passes?

A certain number of benefits and other opportunities are available to qualified media. Qualified media may start the application process by starting a chat conversation with us in the lower right. Please submit your professional biography (a link is fine) and examples of your work (a link to your portfolio is fine).

How many trade delegates do you expect?

It’s always hard to estimate the number of trade delegates. However, looking at attendance at past events, the attractiveness of Portland as a host city, and other factors, we expect several hundred professionals in attendance.

What volunteer opportunities are available and how do I get involved?

A limited number of volunteer positions are available for qualified individuals. Our general rule is 1 hour off for every hour worked. Volunteers receive complimentary conference registration only, and are required to pay for other activities. To inquire about volunteering, please contact us at help(at)worldfoodtravel(dot)org.

What are the event's terms & conditions?

First, be sure to read the refunds and cancellation policy above. We also reserve the right, whenever necessary, to substitute speakers, session titles and subjects, or to replace any part of the program with other content or activities of equal or greater monetary value.
